The Friends of the Macomb County Veterans’ Treatment Court are working to increase awareness in the community about the needs of veterans involved in the Veterans’ Treatment Court and raise funds to assist participating veterans so they can successfully complete the program. Fund raising involves individual, corporate and community based donations. Veterans groups have been very generous in donating funds. Events in the community and a large fundraiser are planned for 2013.

VOLUNTEER VETERAN MENTOR PROGRAM
“No One Can Talk To A Veteran Like A Veteran Can”
--Ret. Lt. Colonel, John Walus, Esq.
Ret. Lt. Colonel, John Walus, Esq., heads up the Macomb County Veterans’ Treatment Court Volunteer Veteran Mentor Program. This unique program involves the assignment of a volunteer veteran mentor to every veteran participant in the Macomb County Veterans’ Treatment Court. Mr. Walus attempts to assign veteran mentors that are of similar age and service experience. Veteran mentors listen to the concerns and problems of the participants and assist them in finding solutions. Mentors provide feed back, highlight veteran participant successes and a good dose of straight talk when failures occur. More>
Transportation: many veterans do not have transportation and bus passes or alternative methods must be found so veterans can get to the VA, court, other treatment facilities and/or community based programs. More>
